Lizar

"Lizar" (الإيزار, also pronounced izar) is THE Moroccan darija word for the bed sheet — the one you hear at the souk, at home and from housekeepers ("bdel lizarat": change the sheets). Common plural: lizarat, or the Frenchified "drapate" (درابات, from the French "drap"). Written standard Arabic prefers ملاءة (mulā'a) or شرشف (charchaf, understood through Middle Eastern TV series).

Behind the word lies a buying reality: the traditional lizar is often a flat sheet, sometimes home-sewn; the elasticated fitted sheet ("lizar li kayshedd" — the sheet that grips) took hold more recently. This trilingual glossary exists precisely for that bridge: if you search for "lizar 160", you are looking for a sheet for a 160×200 bed — as a 30 cm deep-pocket fitted sheet or a flat sheet, and we make both.
