In Morocco in 2026, a 70×140 bath towel costs 25-60 MAD in the light entry range, 80-160 MAD in standard quality, and 100-250 MAD in 500-600 g/m² hotel quality. GSM explains most of the gap: at 25 MAD, the towel weighs half as much — and absorbs half as much.

The anti-scam check: weigh it. A 70×140 in 550 g/m² weighs about 540 g; if the market's 'hotel cotton' towel weighs 300 g, it is a 300 g/m² — and should be priced as one. A claimed GSM with no scale binds only those who believe it.
Why the 25 MAD towel costs you dearly
- It barely absorbs: half the loops = a guest drying off with two towels instead of one — your stock doubles;
- It turns rough fast: short carded fibre that breaks in the wash; after 20 cycles it scratches and ends up a rag;
- It lives 40-60 washes versus 120-150 for a 550 g combed-cotton towel: 0.5 MAD per wash versus 0.9 MAD — the gap narrows, and the perceived quality isn't remotely comparable;
- In a rental, it shows up in the reviews: 'thin, scratchy towels' is a stock comment on listings equipped at the lowest price — over a 60 MAD difference per towel.

- Supermarkets: honest quality at 400-500 g for a middling price, but shifting colours and rarely true hotel-white 550 g (ranges often stop below the trade standard);

Three rules to avoid overpaying (or underpaying)
- Buy by GSM, not by adjective: 'plush', 'thick', 'hotel quality' weigh nothing; 550 g/m² can be checked on a kitchen scale;
- White for everything that rotates: white can be whitened indefinitely; a dulled coloured terry is unrecoverable — and in rentals, white is the expected standard;
- Count the full allocation before buying: 2 towels per person per rotation, one mat per bathroom, +30% with a pool or hammam. Buying twice in a season always costs more than buying right once — the calculator does the count for rentals.

Bath sheet or bath towel: what's the price difference?
A bath sheet (100×150 and up) holds about 50% more fabric than a 70×140: expect 1.5 times the price at equal GSM, i.e. 180-350 MAD in hotel quality. For a rental, the 70×140 remains the standard — the bath sheet is a 'spa' extra.
